Paris Residency 2014, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council: Claudia Joskowicz

Claudia Joskowicz is a visual artist whose practice looks at history and its repercussions on the physical and symbolic landscape, registering it with video and photography and also making reference to the medium’s history. Joskowicz’s solo work include her 2013 exhibitions Sympathy for the Devil, California Museum of Photography at UCR ARTSblock, Riverside, California and Intersections, LMAK Projects, New York, NY. Group exhibitions she has participated in include Under the Same Sun: Art from Latin America Today, Guggenheim Museum, New York (2014); 29th São Paulo Biennial -There is always a cup of sea for man to sail, Video Installation at Parque Ibirapuera, São Paulo, Brazil (2010); and The Tenth Havana Biennial – Integration and Resistance in the Global Age, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam and La Cabaña, Havana, Cuba (2009).

Her most recent residencies include Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation Mid Career Artist’s Commission, Miami, Florida (2014); Paris Residency, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, France (2014); and John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in Film-Video, New York (2011). Joskowicz earned her M.F.A. from New York University and her B.Arch. from University of Houston, Houston, Texas.
